Gillian Royes

Born in Jamaica, Gillian came to the US on a scholarship to Colorado College. She went on to an MA in Journalism at the University of Wisconsin, where she was the editor at the NASA Space Science Center. That experience brought her to IBW as the editor from 1973 to 1974. There she completed editing the Harvard Educational Review and IBW publication “Education and Black Struggle” and worked on the many publications and pamphlets emerging from IBW, including the monthly newsletter.

In 1979, she gained a PhD in American Studies from Emory University and thereafter taught Communications at Clark Atlanta University, Georgia State University and the University of the Virgin Islands. She has published a series of novels with Simon & Schuster called The Shad Series and has recently been writing screenplays for film and television.
